01 / Accelerated Aging

Accelerated Aging Calculator

Estimate in-chamber time for accelerated aging based on ASTM F1980 using the desired real-time duration, real-time and accelerated temperatures, and a Q10 aging-factor assumption.

Estimated in-chamber time

Time

Months use 365 ÷ 12 days; years use 365 days.

Temperature
°C

Ambient/reference temperature used in the aging-factor calculation.

°C

Selected elevated temperature used for the calculation.

Assumption

Assumed change in aging rate for each 10°C temperature increase.

A commonly used conservative assumption; confirm suitability for the specific product and material system.

AAF = 2 ^ ((50 − 25) ÷ 10) = 5.657

AAT = 365 ÷ 5.657 = 64.5234937832725 days in chamber

03 / Aging Relationship

Temperature changes the calculated aging rate.

The illustration shows the relationship used by the calculation. It does not represent physical product aging or material behavior.

04 / Methodology

The calculation behind the result.

Temperature-based accelerated-aging relationship referenced from ASTM F1980-21. This page does not reproduce the standard or establish a protocol.

Aging Acceleration Factor

AAF = Q10 ^ ((TAA − TRT) / 10)

2.0 ^ ((50 − 25) / 10) ≈ 5.657

Accelerated Aging Time

AAT = Desired Real Time / AAF

365 / 5.657 ≈ 64.5 days

05 / Important Considerations

The calculation is only as appropriate as its assumptions.

01

Q10

The selected Q10 must be appropriate for the product and material system. Q10 = 2 is a commonly used conservative assumption, not a universal value.

02

Temperature

The accelerated aging temperature must be appropriate for the materials, packaging, and product being evaluated.

03

Real-Time Aging

Real-time aging remains required to confirm accelerated-aging results.

04

Protocol

This calculator assists with duration estimation; it does not establish a validated aging protocol, shelf-life claim, or regulatory approval.

05

Material Behavior

The calculation does not evaluate physical transitions, degradation mechanisms, or material interactions.

06

Humidity + Testing

Humidity may be addressed in a protocol where appropriate, but it is not modeled as an acceleration factor here. The tool does not determine test methods or acceptance criteria.
